We are delighted to announce Mozart’s Mitridate, re di Ponto as our production for Garsington Opera’s 2020 season.

The young Mozart combines glorious melody, dazzling vocal fireworks and exquisitely tender melancholy in his first opera seria, premiered to immediate acclaim in the year of Beethoven’s birth. The king, Mitridate, and his two sons are all in love with Princess Aspasia; a complex web of rivalry, jealousy and pent up passion ensues.

Conductor Clemens Schuldt makes his Garsington debut with The English Concert, Robert Murray sings in the title role and Tim Albery returns to direct.

Performances: 29, 31 May, 5, 11, 13, 20, 29 June, 2 July 2020

The Garsington 2020 Season also features productions of Verdi’s Un giorno di regno, Dvorak’s Rusalka and Beethoven’s Fidelio with the Philharmonia Orchestra.
