
He made his operatic debut as Eustazio in Handel’s Rinaldo, conducted by René Jacobs, at the Festival de Radio France et Montpellier. This production was later revived at the Innsbruck Festival and the Staatsoper Berlin and recorded by Harmonia Mundi. Since then, Dumaux has performed at major venues, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Opéra de Paris, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Vienna Staatsoper, the Theater an der Wien, the Chicago Opera, and festivals such as Glyndebourne and the BBC Proms.
Dumaux has worked with numerous conductors, including René Jacobs, William Christie, Emmanuelle Haïm, Gianluca Capuano, Giovanni Antonini, Harry Bicket, Andrea Marcon, Ivor Bolton, Ottavio Dantone, and Francesco Corti. He has performed with ensembles such as Les Arts Florissants, La Cetra, and the Freiburger Barockorchester, as well as symphony orchestras like the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Recent performances include Handel’s Messiah with the Orchestre Métropolitain under Yannick Nézet-Séguin at the Maison Symphonique de Montréal.
Dumaux has collaborated with stage directors such as Claus Guth, David McVicar, Robert Carsen, Calixto Bieito, Barrie Kosky, David Alden, Christof Loy, Barbora Horáková, and Richard Jones. His repertoire focuses on 17th- and 18th-century works, particularly those by Handel, Monteverdi, and Mozart. Notable roles include Ottone in Agrippina (Hamburg), the title role in Orlando (Theater an der Wien), Polinesso in Ariodante (Wiener Staatsoper, Salzburg, Bolshoi Theatre, and Opéra Garnier), and Athamas in Semele (Zurich). He is also known for his performances in Handel’s Giulio Cesare, frequently appearing as Tolomeo at venues such as the Metropolitan Opera, Paris Opera, Salzburg Festival, and La Scala. He has also performed the title role in Giulio Cesare, most recently in Amsterdam.
In addition to Handel, Dumaux has performed works by other Baroque composers, including Vivaldi (La Verità in cimento in Zurich, Il Giustino in Berlin) and Cavalli (Il Giasone in Antwerp, La Calisto in Milan). In 2014, he debuted in a Mozart role, singing Farnace in Mitridate at the Drottningholm Theatre in Sweden, conducted by David Stern and directed by Francisco Negrin. He later reprised this role in Paris and Dijon under Emmanuelle Haïm.
During the 2023/2024 season, Dumaux’s engagements include the title role in Handel’s Orlando at Teatro Real in Madrid (conducted by Ivor Bolton and directed by Claus Guth) and Alessandro in Handel’s Tolomeo on a tour with Giovanni Antonini, with performances in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, and Basel. He will also debut in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice at Sydney Opera, conducted by Dane Larm and directed by Yaron Lifschitz.
Dumaux’s discography includes a recording of arias from Bach cantatas and passions with the Ensemble Pulcinella (Ambroisie-Naïve) and Pergolesi’s oratorio Septem verba a Christo with René Jacobs (Harmonia Mundi). His performances as Tolomeo in Giulio Cesare have been recorded on DVD in productions from Glyndebourne (conducted by William Christie, directed by David McVicar), the Theater an der Wien (conducted by Ivor Bolton, directed by Keith Warner), and Salzburg (conducted by Giovanni Antonini, directed by Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier).
